Hi guys! シ My post is a little late but I hope it can bring a smile to everyone's faces. Because this is our second year interning, I know it has been difficult for not just me, but for a number of us, to deal with the idea of not being fully in control. Because we feel we are ready to teach our own classroom on our own, it's hard to not be the teacher in control and in charge. With the aggravation that can come with not feeling in control, I was beginning to feel flooded with negativity, until I saw the quote in pink below:
"2teach is + 2touch lives = 4ever"

I love this quote, not only because it makes a reference to math but because, to me, this quote reminded me of why we are where we are, and why we are choosing the career path we are: Because we want to touch the lives of our students. After seeing this quote, I began to reflect on how I react throughout the day in stressful situations and how it can impact the students. As interns, there are a number of times where you would like to scream, lay down and take a nap, or pull your hair out of your head, HOWEVER we MUST keep in mind that regardless of how we are feeling in the moment, how we react can greatly impact our little ones emotionally and academically. Even more importantly, how we react models to our students how they react and deal with situations. We are the role models and we must teach our students to love school just as much as we love being there teaching them each and everyday. We cannot let the tough days bring us down.

So, the next time you are feeling like would like to scream, lay down and take a nap, or pull your hair out of your head...take a deep breath and KEEP THIS QUOTE IN MIND. I hope it helps.☺☺

The class rules memes are something else I found online that I thought was funny and relatable to all of us. Enjoy!

  1. Katelyn,

I really love both of the images that you have posted and I completely understand your frustration. I'm currently in a room that another teacher half set up and implemented rules in. We still aren't sure if and when she is coming back so even though I have been in this classroom since September (and taken some liberties) I don't feel comfortable changing everything that she had put into place.

Even though I have a "home", it's like I'm renting and at times it drives me crazy but you're 2+2 quote fits my mind perfectly. I wouldn't change the experience I am having now because I am so invested in the children in my room and learning for the children in my future classroom.

  2. I totally get it Katelyn! I have a "home" where I'm coteaching at least 3 days out of the week but then I'm subbing the other 2 days. While part of me likes this because it lessens the amount of substituting I have to do (and I am SOO over subbing!), the other part of me thinks it makes the times I sub that much more difficult because with my coteaching days the majority of the week, I'm even less involved in the other classrooms in the school. This makes me less invested and makes my substituting days difficult.

Regardless, you're right that no matter how frustrated we get at our situation, we cannot let it affect our students and their experience in school. Even now when we aren't in our own classroom, we are still building relationships, which may impact students more than we realize.

Ps I love the funny memes!!

  3. Hey Katelyn! I think all of us can relate to your frustrations! While I am completely happy with my choice to stay at the same school I interned in last year, it also is frustrating knowing I am in the same position as last year and being pulled for various tasks and assignments. Your quote is perfect to remember that through our frustrations when we look out at whatever class we might be in, they are all looking up to us. All those little faces are what makes all our frustrations totally worth it! The memes are helpful to us to keep us laughing along the way :)

  4. I couldn't agree more, Katelyn! Although I wouldn't change our internship experience at all, I think I've reached a point where I just want to have my own classroom and start putting what I have learned to good use. I know that there is so much more to learn, but I feel so ready to take on the challenges of first year teaching! There are so many good things I see in classrooms on a daily basis, but now that we have learned so much from our courses, I can't help but notice things in some classrooms that aren't effective. We just have to remember that the end is near, and push through until we reach the end! We've come so far, and every single one of us is in this program because we all want to tough lives and make a difference! Also, I can relate to every single meme you posted! We've all experienced these a time or two in the classroom! Thanks for the laughs (:

  5. I also completely agree with your post, Katelyn! While my current internship school has been a lot different than my school last year, I am thankful for all of my internship experiences. Even though some days may be frustrating, it is important for us to keep powering through! I think it is those difficult days that truly make us grow as educators. It's so exciting to think that we will be student teaching so soon and one step closer to finally having our own classrooms. Thanks for posting the memes, too :) I think we all can relate to those!

  6. Katelyn this quote is great! It's a great reminder to keep in the classroom as we all will have those days where we want to give up! I know memes are so popular now and I've actually seen a teacher use memes in the classroom as an addition to the morning message to add a visual that the kid can relate to, and the teacher uses a wide variety of ones that deliver many messages!

  7. Katelyn,

I thought the memes were relevant and a good way to connect to your students. There are several Instagram accounts that are dedicated to posting inspirational, motivational, and tongue-in-cheek type memes for teachers. I can't say that I've seen this used in the lower grades and most kids are still unfamiliar with social media platforms, but I imagine this to be pretty popular with the older grades. As for your frustration, I can definitely relate. I think we're all at a point where we're dying to get our own classrooms and stop being seen as building substitutes and interns. I am eagerly awaiting the start of my student teaching and the eventual end to this program. Just a few more months, hang in there!

  8. Katelyn these quotes are so great! The memes are so funny and something that students will totally be able to understand and connect with at a different level. I love the idea of using these in upper-elementary grades, because they are something that this age of students will be able to understand and fully relate. I also LOVE the quote that you posted, because it really is so true. It is so important to keep this in mind as we are pushing through our last year of interning, because we really have seen so much, experienced a lot, and are all very ready to finally take over our own classes. This quote is so true and so helpful to remember as we are finishing out finals, that we are working so hard and doing so much because we are going into a profession that we will touch students' lives for the better.

  9. I really love the meme picture! Kids are so involved on social media these days and are constantly posting and talking about memes. With such rigorous days for these young students, I think it is such a cute idea to have some fun things posted around the room... and to refer to them in a funny way. Not everything has to be so serious.
